How to Create an Amazon Kindle Account (KDP)
Here’s a comprehensive step-by-step guide to creating an Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account, which you need to publish and sell books on Amazon Kindle.
Step 1: Prepare Your Requirements
Before you start, ensure you have the following:
- A valid Amazon account (if you don’t have one, you can create it during the process)
- A valid email address
- A phone number for verification
- Your bank account details for receiving payments (IBAN/SWIFT if outside the US)
- Your tax information (SSN, EIN, or other tax details depending on your country)
Step 2: Go to Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
- Open your browser and go to https://kdp.amazon.com
- Click “Sign in” if you already have an Amazon account.
- If you don’t have an Amazon account, click “Sign up” to create one.
Step 3: Create or Sign in to Your Amazon Account
- If you already have an Amazon account, enter your email/phone number and password to sign in.
- If you’re new to Amazon, click “Create your Amazon account” and fill in:
- Your name
- Your email address
- A password
- Click “Create your Amazon account”
- Amazon will send a One-Time Password (OTP) to your email or phone number for verification.
- Enter the OTP to confirm your email/phone number.
Step 4: Accept KDP Terms and Conditions
- Once logged in, Amazon will ask you to accept the KDP Terms of Service.
- Click “Accept” to proceed.
Step 5: Complete Your KDP Account Information
- Go to “Your Account” Settings (you may be prompted automatically).
- Fill in the required sections:
1. Author/Publisher Information
- Enter your full name (make sure you use your legal information as present on your ID Card here, in case of Identity Verification)
- Choose your country/region.
- Provide a mailing address.
2. Payment Information
- Select your banking country.
- Enter your bank details (account number, SWIFT code, IBAN if applicable).
- Amazon pays via Direct Deposit (EFT) in most regions.
3. Tax Information
Please leave this section to us if you are our author and are outside the United States. We will fix this for you.
For authors in the United States, please follow the guide below.
- Click “Complete Tax Information”.
- Select Individual or Business.
- Provide your country of citizenship.
- If you are in the US, enter your SSN (Social Security Number) or EIN (Employer Identification Number).
- If outside the US, fill out the W-8BEN form to claim tax treaty benefits if applicable.
- After completing, click Submit.
Step 6: Secure Your KDP Account
